I just read this awful blog post on about the illegal immigration in the US. I disagreed with the author on may levels, but I found most of my thoughts summed up by the various comments left on the post. So, I decided to take some of my favorites and copy them here:

FIRST OF ALL: "The law simply says Federal law which has stood for decades is now also an enforceable Arizona law. Federal law already requires aliens (non-citizens) to register and carry their documents with them. The law only allows police to ask about immigration status in the normal course of “lawful contact” with a person, such as a traffic stop or if they have committed a crime. There are no directives for racial profiling. The law specifically states that police, “may not solely consider race, color or national origin” when implementing SB 1070."

"Americans are sick of our government and its oh-so-predictable lap-dog media for endlessly taking the side of foreign lawbreakers against the legal, taxpaying citizens who pay for it all."

"[Illegals] contributions to Social Security at last count added up to the difference between what the system currently receives in payroll taxes and what it doles out in pension benefits! (Thanks guys!)"
"Great point! You also forgot to add, undocumented immigrants murder an estimated 9 thousand Americans each year also! Saves money also, since the murdered will never collect Social Security. Thanks guys!"

"The public interest group FAIR put the price tag in Arizona alone at $2.7 billion to pay for health care, education, and incarceration for illegals."

"And if they do so much for this country, maybe they should have to sign up for the draft like I did."

And in her article, the author mentions that it should be unjust for police to racially profile someone because they have "brown-colored skin" - however, that is racist to assume that all "brown-colored" people are illegals. How about the countless Asians that come into America illegally? Or what about Europeans? Just because someone is white doesn't mean they can't be an illegal citizen.

If I were in Arizona and a cop came up to me requesting to see my papers, I would proudly show them (and be a little excited that he thought I was a foreigner/European) and walk away. If that is the want of the American/Arizona people, then who am I to begrudge them?
